Hi guys,

A friend had a good day out shooting and brought me these down tonight:

Happy days, will have to find some recipes for them.

Now guess what they are  ?

The picture is misleading for the 3rd teal, it's a drake too but his back his showing, hence the difference of color.

And indeed the other 3 are woodcock.

Getting roasted tonight, never had them before so hopefully won't be disappointed.

Have you plucked them yet? If not, I don't suppose you could take a pic of a plucked woodcock next to one in the feather? I've seen quite a few flying about and they always seem larger than what I'd expect.

Well you're lucky on that one ...

They do look deceiving is right .. like most birds, but they feel surprisingly heavy for there size.

Weighted the plucked one and comes out at a brilliant 179gr ! what a meal ..

The teals are around 185gr .

Many thanks for the picture Camile, I've been looking for one like that for ages.

Sadly I've never tried woodcock. If you have a friend who's got a spare bottle of Champagne they can drop off this recipe looks easty Woodcock a la fine Champagne and there's plenty more game recipes there.

Woodcock, now that's a meal fit for a king!

And the teal, confit, would have me on my kness begging for more!
