Lavender and brussels sprouts (they always blow) here too. Plus swedes, maincrop potatoes (slugs) and spinach. And I've never grown Little Gem successfully either, but have no problems with big Romaine-type lettuces.

Runner beans here. Planted indoors/sown direct/in beds/in big pots/etc. None of it makes any difference, the ninja North Devon slugs/snails hammer them.

Carrots : whether long-rooted Autumn King types, Chantenay-type, or even small round ones : very little luck with germination or growth.

Any kind of hearting brassica : cabbage, sprouts...
Looseleaf is fine.

On the other hand, I have no trouble growing Little Gem lettuce.

Carrots and leeks. Both to get their final chance this year.

carrots
I pulled the lone plant that germinated from last july's sowing yesterday .... the root was about the size of a chickpea....

think it might be a combo of my heavy ish soil and very dry weather .
I've got a loamy sunny patch planned for this years carrots, if I can crack the watering requirement. it's last chance saloon for carrots this season.

Parsnips, dont even like em, wanted to grow some for the missus. Wont bother this year and use the space for something I can grow and like to eat, shallots I think.

I'm too stubborn to give up on a crop because it won't do well, as evidenced by the fact that I'm having a third crack at yard long beans this year. I've never managed with kohl rabi, although I've tried over and over again. Don't know why.
