I have six-ish spare six week old barnevelder cockerels that will be culled tomorrow night as they are surplus to requirements.

If anyone would like them for £2 each, I can meet you enroute from Taunton to St Clears on Monday morning (via Bristol) or they can be collected from here, near Taunton, tomorrow or Monday.

I WILL have more later on, they are coming through all the time; but this lot need to be thinned out at this point as we are short of space.

Chez dear, we will take them all. How big a box do I need to bring with me?

Judith thinks I am completely daft hatching birds to eat. She said it would be cheaper to buy chicks. What has cost got to do with it?

Are you MAD? Not to put you off or anything - but it's a LOT of birds. And they will all get to roughly killing weight at the same time. As an introduction to processing your own cockerels it's probably not as *subtle* as one could be ...

On the plus side, you could organise a culling and plucking party and put your guests to work

Good plan Jo.

We are going to leave them up at the farm. They will be safe overnight in an outbuilding and can free range during the day (and not be a nuisance to the hens). It's less than Jack used to do at a time and I like eating chicken.

I do hope you weren't implying that I hadn't thought this through.

Jack asks is this £2 a bird or 2lb in five months?

Recommend some thought before preparing the invitations or you could find yourself involved in a very different kind of party

That sounds good, do you think I can convince him that if might not cost (too) much?

Just going to check that there aren't any mice nesting in that wool before clinching this major deal.

If you are going to free-range them, it should keep the cost down a lot. And don't you have all sorts of Farming Stuff you can feed them?

What sort of Farming Stuff were you thinking of? Do you mean the kind of growers pellets and mixed corn you buy using the Farm Account?
