Hi,
I have kept chickens before but last year decided to get some ex bats. They were is pretty poor condition when I got them and two have since died. They did however lay until around Mid Feb although they often laid very fragile eggs.. Since then nothing. I have tried bringing them back into lay with a dummy egg, calcium supplements, poultry spice... in fact they must be the healthiest hens in the country! They are currently getting both supplements plus ignoring the dummy egg. Does anyone have any experience of this, or are they destined never to lay another egg ever? They are being fed on layers pellets, and currently not getting any treats apart from the occasional bit of greens.

I think that because they are pushed so hard during their laying lives, they *can* just run out of puff. I would be thinking about retiring them to the great hen-house in the sky myself - if they are healthy, they *should* be laying at the time of year.

Hmm, well, you'll just have to let them toddle along then! Although I suppose 'for life' doesn't necessarily specify whether or not you end it yourself

What sort are they? I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and he said that he liked warrens because you knew where you were with them - they lay like mad, then one day you see them looking a bit peaky standing by the drinker and the next day they are dead. None of this messing about 'will they won't they' stuff

Warrens!
Your right, one poor thing died, and I came home a few weeks ago and another looked as though it had had a heart attack.
Perhaps I could rehome them somewhere nice...........some altruistic person might be prepared to take them I suppose

Palming the problem off on to someone else. If you don't want to continue feeding and caring from them, neck them.

Thre's a reason why the 'farmers' are so keen to get rid of them y'know. Poor things. In more than one sense of the word.

Hi, its been sorted. A woman down the road who keeps chickens had taken them. She has a lot of ex bats and when I went round they had very good accommodation! I told her they wont lay and she said she didnt mind. I just wonder if now they are with her they may start laying again as she had another one that wasnt laying which produced eggs within a few days!
