Ok, pigs are now in their field, it only took about half an hour to move them 50yds...trouble was there was lots of nice weeds to eat along the way which were obviously MUCH tastier than the pig food I had in my bucket But we did it quietly and stresslessly.
Fence is checked, electric inner fence is on, and they are now doing circuits of the perimeter planning their escape..at least it looks like that.
Anyway, they are running about and rooting, and eating, so seem to be quite happy.
More anon.

Glad it went well. How long did you stand watching them afterwards?

Glad to hear that they are settling in well. Our two, also, have returned to the field but are missing their brothers!

My piggies are growing FAST, and making craters everywhere!
They are now 3 1/2 months old, and I have been advised by one person that they should go at 5 months, and another (the breeder) that 6 months was ok.
Any opinions and how big should they be? how do I guestimate the weight, do I use some sort of tape?

You're not far away, are you? Would you like me to come over one day and have a look? I can bring a weigh-tape.

Some do say that but I've happily eaten boars at 14 months of age and even culls that have sired piglets. The chances of boar taint seem tiny.

I put an eight year old boar in the freezer after he ran out of lead. No taint from him either.

Most mature boars I know would batter their way out again though.

Not Bailey. He fell asleep en route to the abattoir and everyone who worked there was most amused by his snoring and the way he took his time to wake up and demanded a scratch before he would even consent to leave the trailer

Clearly an excellent pig with his priorities right. RIP Bailey.
