I'm assuming it's rust - some of the leaves on my broad beans are acquiring reddish brown spots.

Apart from acknowledging that they probably are planted too close together, is there any thing I should do?

They look as though we should be able to harvest the first lot quite soon and there are loads of pods on the way.

Try a 10% milk spray Jamanda, I have no idea if it works for rust but it does work on mildew.

Can't do any harm I suppose. OK I'll try that tomorrow, Thank you.

My courgettes have a bit of mildew, so I'll do the lot.

If they are quite small brown spots its broad bean rust (no known cure)

If they are more larger its Broad bean chocolate spot (no known cure apart from more air flow and avoid damp places). The spots can grow quite large and effect other parts of the plant.

The affected leaves literally look rusty to me. But as both possibilities have no known cure I suppose it's academic. Next year I will plant further apart.

eta I live in Devon - avoiding damp places is not an option

My broad beans always get brown spots - doesn't seem to make any difference to the eating quality of the beans as long as you don't leave them to get too old.

Mine look like that too - rusty and or chocolately marks on the pods, dry as a bone here and has been since March. No problem for the beans inside the pods though!
