Just read a fb post from a friend who has had her cats in the vets all night. Lilies can be fatal to puss cats. Even brushing past and licking the pollen from their fur can cause kidney failure.
I never knew this and just thought it was worth spreading the info in case others didn't either.

Thanks Nell. I had no idea. How's your friend's cat doing?

I'd heard of this. These lilies are frequently sold in supermarket / petrol stations. They really ought to come with a warning.

One of the reasons I never grow them.

Picking lily beetle grubs off is grim, but not so grim as making assorted neighbourhood cats sick.

All you have to do is nip out the stamens and then there's no danger to cats.

You can do this to cut flowers, or ones you grow outdoors.

There are cut flower varieties that don't shed pollen so probably safe (Don't quote me).

Thanks Nell I didn't know that either and we have four cats! So no more lilies for me in future.

I had some lillies in the garden and my ex's cats went mad for them like they were catnip - rubbing themselves all over them and eating them until there was nothing left I looked it up and found they were poisonous....but neither cat had any side effects? just lucky I guess.
