I'm just returning to knitting after a fairly lengthy break. Today I've successfully completed a short project using dpns for the first time & am feeling really pleased with myself so I fancy having a go at socks. I like the look of the chunky ones posted by Sally in Wales but am wondering if they'd be too big for my little size 4's? I thought I might try using DK on 3.75 or 4mm, the top end of what Sally recommends for children. Please can anyone advise if I'm on the right lines?

When I knit socks with DK, I use 3mm dpns, and cast on 50-54, depending on the leg pattern and how stretchy it is. I have a wide foot, though.

For adult feet, I think it's more the length of foot that varies and gives the size you are. For that, you just start the toe decreasing sooner.

Try a CO of 48-52sts and knit a sock with ribbing all down the leg and foot (so it should cling to fit)

Thanks Gil! I have wide feet too so that sounds good.
