It's too dry for anything decent here at the moment. *Sulks*

just back from a Suffolk foray... was not expecting to find anything at all but we struck gold with a bit of beefsteak fungus and some shaggy parasols
If you ask me, that's a miracle given how dry it's been!

Can I have a gold star now please?

Jamanda, beech mast is quite small and fiddly and a bit of a pain to get a decent nibble from (even when they're really plump good ones). I always joke that the fastest way to get a decent meal from them is to tether a pig under the tree and eat the pig. If you have the time and patience though, you can use them any way you would other nuts, or roast them for a kind of coffee substitute. They do also make excellent oil that apparently doesn't go rancid easily.
