or the illegal meat trade it's pretty huge now ,it was always there but with price rises less people ask where it comes from

some chap got arrested this year ,he got 6 months for running an illegal slaughterhouse and get this a 20000 pond fine for using illegal workers ,something like that anyway, they were selling it cheap to butcher shops
trying to find the link but cannot
not saying it is just something to watch out for

Since I rarely go in the butchers nearest to me (unless I'm in tregaron), I can only go with the lamb that is on a sign. We have a butchers by me that does half a lamb from £24, so Just under £50... that's his own lambs that he has reared for that price and the smalls one. So for a whole lamb £32.99, would still be very cheap round here.

I find this statement interesting, given that business is driven by people's confidence, is there ever an economic climate where people aren't looking to cheapen their food budget, because I don't remember it from my lifetime.

Could be my eye sight, but the 'whole' lambs (in the first pic) for 32 quid seem to be missing their legs ?

According to EBLEX Business Pointers, the average less favoured area producer is getting 96.48 per ewe and making a margin after cash-costs of £7.83. If every single upland ewe had 2 lambs, that's £48.24, which means the above figures certainly don't add up for legal British meat.

same as everything in life some do some dont but times are harder now people are looking to save at every corner.

i would rather cut down on quanity than quality if i had to make a choice.

But my question is, when was the economic time when it wasn't understandable?

Looks like it's Halal meat too. Having seen Kosher kill of cattle, I'm not sure i'd be keen.

All meat sold in Barking these days anywhere other than the supermarket is abatment order halal, the last british butcher got a noise served on him cos he was under some flats and they complained about him going to the market in the morning and then butchering and mincing before 8.30am, after that he moved 10 miles to Romford and we are left with nothing but halal, mind you i can now get cow foot, chicken feet, gizzard, tripe, lung and smoked turkey bum i think......

Ok it might not be the bum but it sure looks like it

blimey is all i can say ! i sold some lambs to the abbatoir yesterday and got average £79 each, avg 20.8 kg carcases. Thats £3.80 a kg before butchery or anything. I dont think euro light carases are much cheaper per kg at the moment either.
