one of the puss cats is having trouble going. Has been for the last 48 hrs or so.
She spends a good deal of time on the tray but nothing seems to happen. We wondered if she was going outside so ejected her but she came back in to get back on the tray and started making all the going motions. Still nothing.
We have no idea what her diet is because she flatly refuses everything we give her. However, she is quite plump so is not starving. She has been wormed reasonable recently (about 6 weeks ago) but is due for a dose.
She is happy enough in herself and is still fussy and bright.
Any ideas, please?

If I ever made the mistake of giving ours tuna in oil it used to give him the trots.

10 ml liquid parrafin bp as an enema ,if that wont work in a few hours vet time would be my home remedy but you could go strait to the vets

After that it might be worth finding out which neighbour is feeding her and what on. If this is the case then the problem might continue.

Cats tend to have weak kidneys, so any blockage in allowing them to 'go' can quickly lead to serious issues, especially in male cats (I realise you said 'she' so assume it's a girlie cat). A trip to the vets would be my vote.

Sensible choice Nell would be a trip to the vets, where as mine would be to buy a big dog and frighten the s*** out of it. Seriously though, it could be a blockage, so I wouldn't leave it too long before you take it to the vets. Best of luck

Have you seen her wee ? One of my male cats suffers from cystitis two or three times a year. He shows all the signs of wanting to wee, in and out of tray, scratching litter or earth outside, but no wee - sometimes he passes a small amount of blood. I'm afraid it's a vet trip for pain killers and antibiotic's, if it is cystitis.

Sheba is on special cat food as she's had crystals in her bladder. If she's been wandering for a while and had other food, she sometimes strains until she passes blood. May be worth getting her to the vet for a look over.

My male Birman had crystals in the bladder. In the male cat, the urethra is badly designed and has a 90 degree 'kink' in it where crystals can very easily lodge.

Although I took him to the vets quickly when I spotted he was straining to go to the loo, due to total incompetance on their part which resulted in a delay for him to get the proper treatment, the urethra had effectively shredded.

I removed him from their care and took him to Newmarket Animal Heath Trust for them to re-construct his urethra using his willy (turned it inside out, re-modelled his internals).

They said it was the worst they had ever seen, but managed to save him. 7 years on, he's still fine.

Cost me a small fortune though to fix him.

Anyhow, any blockage in a cat backs up the nasty stuff and plays swift and merry havoc with their kidneys, which have a tendancy of shutting down. With issues in the waterworks department for cats ... get them to a vet quickly.

she's had a bit of tuna. Fortunately she has has all the oil. She's had a little wee. She's not in pain and we are watching her closely...

You sure that BA's not feeding all your animals lomotil after the last week or so?

It's BA who is the more worried. He spoils the animals. (even the dog)
