My computhingy has just automatically updated my browser to IE9 and everything has moved around

I know that I needed to update and all that sort of thing, but why do they have to move things around It's like having a guest in the house who moves the mugs from the mug cupboard to the cat food cupboard and then smugly tells you that it's more secure, or more efficient.

I'm sure that I'll quickly get accustomed to reaching for the mugs in the new place (can't spare the time or brain power to work out how to move them all back again) but couldn't they leave things where they are (or at least have a 'restore classic settings button?)

The answer is don't use IE9 - Dreadful piece of software - try another browser such as Chrome, Safari or Firefox (my personal favourite) - IE is bloated, buggy and still non-compliant with standards

Teah happened to me and I used to have a forward and back button and another which showed recent pages which has gone. Whats the google chrome like I was thinking of trying it

Standard microsoft update. They don't change anything in the software but they shuffle all the menus around. I think that they hope that by making everyone go through the learning curve again it will seem like something new has happened.

ie has always had its creators interests before those of its users a big steaming pile of code imho full of holes for hackers ,clunky to use , about as much fun as relying on norton security products or a candyfloss boat

People's preferences vary but my preferred browsers are (in order), chrome, firefox, opera, IE,. Though sometimes I think the order should be chrome, firefox, opera, telnet, IE

chrome is functional but will datamine all you do for targeted marketing if you dont tick all the right privacy boxes i use firefox which has a few nasty habits but is less bother than the others imho

True but you can turn on the security and privacy in chrome and firefox can be a huge memory hog.
Opera can be a bit quirky in its interface
IE is just a security hazard it's embedded so far into the OS that any security hole in IE is a major hazard and it will also try to datamine you. In a way although I don't like datamining I trust google more than microsoft because I can seewhat they are doing with that datamining and it' basically targetted advertising. Datamining when I can't see why someone is doing it is even more untrustworthy.

It's not really a question of which one's best, they all move the icons and menus around don't they? I know firefox keeps changing the way it does stuff.

ps the last chrome using machine i cleaned had 241 dubious items such as 3rd party cookies in it

That's not really a chrome issue though as any browser can allow third party cookies and most will by default and while dubious most third party cookies will be innocuous.

yeh they all move things around and change things for just the sake of change, Just like shops do and yes it's annoying!

and they all have their issues - I use chrome - and i like it very much.

I notice here, on downsizer, if i insert a smiley in the text, it appears at the bottom of the post instead of where I put it.. whereas IE puts it where I wanted it. I always assumed this was a chrome not compatible with the forum thing. not that it is a biggy.

my point is none of them are perfect.

Can you import favourites from IE to a new browser - or would I have to find all my links again in e.g. Chrome or Firefox?
