Mine did. Made a very tasty cake that survived on the worktop briefly.

I've made two from it now - both were quite dense, certainly not the sort of cake that would collapse in the oven, but were very nice.

I did wonder if it was worth letting it sit and rise a bit before baking.

Someone has left a pot of Herman on the doorstep.
There are no Downsizers in the area.

There does seem to be a bit of an epidemic of them about at the moment!

I like the idea of a viral cake

I've managed to get hold of one, cooked it last night - it was lush. Now got to wait another 10 days before we can have another one

Why not just split Herman in half at an earlier stage and bake half and grow half on? Then you won't have to keep finding new homes for him lol.

Yes good idea, otherwise I can see myself becoming well and truly a 'Herman' slave with them taking over the whole kitchen

I've been given one with the self-same recipe. I was surprised to see baking powder in the recipe, since I had naively thought that the yeast activity in the dough would make it rise. Has anyone tried baking the cake without the baking powder?

I made a good chocolate one the other day. I did use a big spoon full of baking powder though.
