Howard won one this week. (One of the leaflets he designed won Best Campaign at the TUC design awards and that was his prize).

I know they're the poor relation of a Kindle, but as I've had no interest in getting one, I don't know much more than that.

Any info greatly appreciated.

They are not a poor relation of the Kindle. All e-ink readers are much of a muchness, and the Kobo is as good as any.

Their shop is no better than anyone elses.

There are two formats for ebooks, the old mobipocket used by the Kindle and Adobe epub used by everyone else (including all the i-thingies), so epub is the better standard to go for. Most ebooks are available in both formats.

I would urge you to download calibre from calibre-ebook.com as the best library system. This easily converts other formats to epub for the Kobo.

Certainly does on Snow Leopard (10.6.

Edited to add - that should be 10.6.8. Consider the smile a free gift!

I was shown a great feature on Calibre a couple of weeks ago: If you go to the "Fetch News" button and schedule a news download, there's a whole bunch of publications available. Some good, some not so good .
I now download the Guardian every morning. For free
