Our potato supplier at work reckons that the biggest spud farm round here won't have anything left to sell by Christmas.
And the wholesale price of spuds is heading up at a time of year when it's usually going down. |

Like most foods, the combination of rising costs, poor prices and bad weather can only have one effect on future supply, and therefore prices. |

I've never tried the Autumn planting spuds - never needed to! But going to give it a go this year. |

Food is an excellent investment at the moment. Tinned and dried goods that keep - will only go up in value and are more inflation proof than savings. |

we have some Autum/Christmas potatoes growing in bags and barrels in the tunnel, put them in the other week they are up to the tops already and looking great, also sowed some carrots and beetroot in the tunnels for a late harvest |

I've had success with carrots and beetroot, but my late potatoes last year all succumbed to late blight. I blame the really hot spell we had last October. |
