so as of tomorrow, i inherit part of the universities allotments, im just wondering is there anything that can be done with it at this point or if its best to just go along the lines of green manure until a more suited planting time?

after that though, what can i grow that will take into account me not being here during the summer holidays, christmas and possibly easter? we do have some greenhouse space if that helps with the options.

more like what you needn't bother growing. Some time ago, a neighbouring plotholder was into touring France every summer - it was sad to watch his beans ripen and go over.

The answer is to grow maincrops. Most potatoes will happily grow all summer (Phytophthora infestans permitting).

NB, weeds don't respect holidays, au contraire.

Ditto. Allotments don't really suit being left for long periods of time - especially in summer. Have seen many plotholders at our site fail to keep up plots because of lots of travelling.
