I connect to the internet through the WiFi router here. This puts me on the LAN.
I connect to a VPN through this internet connection.
Some software connects happily through the VPN, but other software sits on the LAN, and so the remote computer cannot connect.
Is there a way of forcing it to use the VPN instead?

That doesn't make much sense.

I assume you mean your LAN of PCs etc.

To whom/where is the VPN connection?

What software?

A.

As I understand, the router creates a Local network and the computer connects to it.

The piece of software that you are using for your gaming will create the VPN and it will be specific for that piece of software. Are you wanting other gaming programs to use the VPN as well or programs like your web browser?

Your VPN may have a list of allowed and not allowed stuff to go over it. I would imagine that games may be blocked if it is a corporate VPN>>>

It has worked before when I've logged in via dial-up.

I keep reading the title to this thread as VPL. I was going to suggest boxer shorts as the solution.

I'm just imagining an orang-utang in Spanx. It's not nice!

Dial up and VPN are quite different technologies and the latter has far more control depending on the software being used for it.

Is the VPN built into the router or is it PC software?

What is the VPN software?

A bit more info wouldn't be amiss.

So the VPN software is on your PC but is all the software at your end on your PC or on another machine on your lan?

From the way you've phrased it, I'm guessing that the other software at your end is on another machine?

The VPN is running between your computer with the VPN software and the remote server. To have another machine at your end talking through the vpn then either install the VPN software on the other machine or get involved in routing tables to redirect stuff through the machine with the VPN software.

Without knowing a lot more about the set up it is difficult to give advice.

There is nothing (relevant) on my machine other than Windoze.
Somewhere there is a box which is running the VPN. I connect to it with windows network manager (or whatever it is called).

I'd have had that the other way up.

It is not important. I had assumed I had missed something obvious and it was a simple problem...
If I start asking technical questions then it might suggest that the network administrator doesn't know what he's doing and that might cause offence...
