I put this link in the other thread, but it seems appropriate here too. Labelling horse meat seems to have been an issue in this country for quite some while.

Clip from 1948: (edited to working link, hopefully)

I ate some horse at our local bar at the weekend, home-cooked, lovely and tender chunks, a bit 'sweeter' than beef. As has been previously said if it was deemed fit for human consumption, it would be fine.

Ordered and ate it in a little village in Belgium many years ago. It was a steak and very nice it was too. I probably wouldn't be too fussed about horse mince and definitely not in a ready meal but I don't eat those anyway. As a family we have horses, we also have dogs and I definitely could not eat dog in any form.

Ill eat anything that walks swims crawls or flys, as long as it is labelled correctly and passed as fit for human consumption...

oh ffs.

horse that's fit for human consumption isn't a cheap alternative to beef. if ther's horse in these products, it's because there's a good reason it couldn't go into the food chain. therefore people shouldn't be eating it.

but that's alright, we can feed the inedible meat to the poor. their health isn't important, not like proper people.

I think that the supermarkets are way ahead of the German politician. The stuff is being sold to poor. Again a conservative type politician being totally out of touch with reality.

Like Toggle said, its any old crap meat, unfit for human consumption, and they get away with it 'cos its minced up with crap that is (just about) fit for human consumption and then mixed with flavour enhancers and stuff so you have no idea whats in it.

Back to the top of the thread, it would make a change from venison I suppose. (When I mentioned it to a vegetarian acquaintance, I did call it roast Bambi)

Have I missed something?

I have not seen any evidence that any of the found horse meat is unfit for human consumption.

Surely by now they would have been testing for illegal drugs & trumpeted it loud & clear if they found any.

it's blindingly obvious if you think about this logically.

horse is not a cheap substitute for beef.

so if someone was making money out of substituting horse for beef, then this wasn't horse that could ahve been sold legally.

if tou think someone should be eating it, eat it yourself

Top plan - and then you can send 'the poor' you're normal food budget.
