I know I want to make something .... But what? I have no desire to knit, spinning is nice enough (but see knitting statement). I would like to make clothes but time lets me down on that front....I don't fancy quilting

What can I teach myself? Gloving? Turn shoes ?

Suggestions?

I did think about braiding but lots of people do that and I wanted to find something a little more obscure maybe. Have you tried any of the silk for braiding Sally? I can get more of that.

Sean on the other hand seems to want to have me in occupational therapy

although that said... Basket making could be quite useful

I did make a "wedding dress" out of plastic hospital aprons once. Does that count?

If you want to go for something obscure, what about tatting. I had a go at it, and got the basics, but haven't done any for years. You should be able to buy the shuttle and perhaps an instruction book, or look on line. I am sure there are videos showing you how to tat now.

What about taking up carpentry or metalwork?

Sally sells tatting shuttles, and lace making bobbins.

I just need to take up hoovering, which I'll do a bit later on. More mess first.

You could come here and be put to work making salves, lotions, potions and unguents.

I'm finding sprang is quite fun, although I doubt that it will lead to anything remunerative. From a creative/fun point of view, bobbin lace is ok too, but is more outlay, and very unlikely to recover it, let alone cover labour.

eta meant to say, bobbin lace is quite well known whereas hardly anyone seems to have even heard of sprang, even at my local WSD!

Sorry to hijack, but are there any sets of tutorials for real basic stuff - like how to shorten a skirt from the top to keep the ruffly bottom edge? And done by hand?
