I need some drainage ditches dug and drainage stone laid - how much per hour for a man using his own digger and dumper truck should I reasonably expect to pay per hour in mid-Wales?

Thanks.

Owner drivers I know won't charge hourly rate. Full day rate only. Which is fair enough when you have to transport machinery and can only do one job a day.
Yep £30/hour extrapolated over a day is in right region.
Look on ebay under 'mini digger' loads of drivers advertise there.

Compare that to hiring one which is about £20 per day for dumper, £50 for digger, depending upon the size, of course, and you have to fuel & drive it.

If you can wait until the farmer gets back Geraldine I will ask him what he paid as we have recently had to repair one of the field drains. It took a lot of paddling around in mud discussing it. I can also get you the contact details if you are at the North end of the county.

You would be better off with an extra man.

Job will take much less time.

Thanks for your replies - £30 per hour was the figure I had in mind.
