I remember some of the local nurseries round here selling bunches of hazel for daft prices for people to make their own garden plant support structures etc. Not sure if you could sell it to any local nurseries.

There are various coppicing organisations that may also be able to help find a market for the wood.

This is a good book on modern coppice practice in a Permaculture way: The Woodland Way by Ben Law. The link is from my amazon affiliate scheeme, but you can also find it at Ecologic Books and Permanent Publications. If anyone has been watching some of the 'Grand Design' programs on Chanel 4, and seen the wonderful strawbale house with timber cladding and shingle roof, that was Ben's. There will be a new book out sometime soon on his house, available from Permanent Publications.

Bugs gave me that book for Christmas a year ago. Very good book and Ben did a good program for C4 about his house.

I have Hazel, although its not really the right time of year to cut it, as it may then die. How much do you want, and what are you willing to pay?...(Bearing in mind the stool may not recover after)

Thank you for your reply, I only need 10 x 30" pieces of about 1/2" diameter.

I would pay whatever you consider a fair price, plus P&P. I would certainly not want to be responsible for the demise of your stool so I guess I'll have to use something else until the timing is better.

Hazel is the recommended wood for use in staking out long nets for rabbiting. I am sure that I can use bamboo until I am able to get hold of the more traditional wood.

Ken, hazel is the traditional wood for a long net. Make do until October then pm me if you remember, and I'll sort you out. Bamboo or even better native wood sticks such as Yew would be better than bamboo though, as it's prone to snap under strain....

coppice ace . about as sustainable as it gets .in a few years you will have a wealth of resource . i dont have land , i do guerilla coppicing and guerilla mixed forest planting . after a few decades it all adds up . well done , the future thanks you .onward :arrow:
