Which blogging platform helps the most for SEO?

Which one do you use?

Is Seo effected when the blog is embedded into the receiving website, rather than linked to?

I think that content and regular updates matter more than anything else, the platform doesn't make much if any odds. That's a gut feeling based on my personal interweb experience rather than anything peer-reviewed.

SEO is about content rather than platform or SEO tricks (snake oil). Make your blogs interesting, informative, relevant, and accurate and you can't go far wrong.

If you haven't dome so already use Google web master tools for both your site and blog (if separate).

Pick a blogging platform you like and stick with it, personally I prefer Wordpress especially for hosting on your own site as there are loads of plugins for it, Chez likes Blogger, there are others

Oh with Wordpress you can get plugins that will help with your SEO such as this one https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

I also blog but haven't done anything about SEO or thought about it.But I guess I am writing just for pleasure really and for friends and other people that like reading it. I'd like more people to read it who will really like it, but it isn't part of me making a living or similar - so haven't thought of trying to promote it much.

What are you blogging about?

Oh, and I use Wordpress and find it ok, but haven't tried anything else.

I have started blogging once a day to try and improve our SEO - I also link to a lot of blog linkies and comment on other blogs. It is time consuming but I like doing it and I have quite a few people express interest in visiting us. Just need to convert them into bookings now!

If you want an easy linky to join try Silent Sunday. You simply post a picture with no words up on a Sunday and then link to the Silent Sunday blog where there is a list of all the other pictures and you can comment on as many as you want.

I use blogger because that was where we started and I am loathe to change. I think Wordpress has more gadgets that can be useful. There also a difference between using Woprdpres.com and Wordpress.org as detailed here

Is the difference that one of them comes with a spellchecker and the other doesn't?

Oh and make it as easy as possible to post comments - captchas are a pain and you can moderate to filter out spam.

I like Blogger, I think because I'm used to it. I've been with them for nearly ten years now and it's very different now than it was then.

I agree with Sean and Rosie, it's regular updates and interesting content that push you up the ratings. I've just googled 'ducking for apples', my original blog, and it still comes third in the google rankings - but that's because it's a direct search on it's name rather than because of the content. In the olden days, I used to spend an hour or so a day visiting other people with interesting sites and interacting. It's that interaction that brings you traffic to begin with, it's very much a symbiotic thing.

I think there's a big difference between blogging for 'fun' and blogging for 'business', which I guess is what you are wanting? You (any business) wants to attract traffic; but the time you have to put in to interacting with other people is limited. So you are looking to attract people who aren't going to be looking for 'mullacott farm's blog' they will be looking for 'holiday destinations in north devon' or something like that?

In which case, you want to stick those keywords in to your post titles and your post content and try and keep the content fresh and relevant. As VP says, SEO rankings people are snake-oil salesmen, there's no quick answer, it's an organic and fluid thing.
