that's the one I had in my mind. I had described the flowers to the owner but the name had gone. It must be ny age.

I think with the purpley, slightly less lignified looking stem I'd expect purple flowers. (Or maybe pink - we get both).

She has just told me they had purple flowers last year

Yep: Linaria purpurea. If the flowers are a lovely, delicate pink it's L. p. "Canon J Went". I think there's also a white cv.
