Some years back I was recommended the Shepherd's Mate sheep head restraint - like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shepherds-Mate-Portable-Head-Restrainer/dp/B00DGV7756

Didn't buy it then as was expensive for the number of times likely to use it. Was looking to buy one now as have a particularly strong wether who needs clipping before the weather gets too hot - and the last experience of clipping him without head restraint was bruising.

Anyway, the as recommended product above, is out of stock everywhere I've found it on line. Anyone recommend an alternative?

If that`s the type you want, could you not find someone handy with a welder,it look`s simple enough to knock up.

Or alternatively knock up a yolk out of a light flat type pallet, cut out the middle one or two planks from the centre up,and bolt a plank in their place that will swivel across,
On the top rail just screw on 2 blocks either side the gap,and screw a length of wood across so the bolted plank slides within this, then bore a few holes through the top rail and the screwed on length so you can peg the plank,
Pallet can be tied across a small gateway.

home made seems a good idea

a simple type from dog fettling is a post with a hole for a rope halter.

"noose"the critter, pull rope through hole until the head end is fixed, tie ,clip mutt(or sheep)

with a few holes at different heights different sizes can be accommodated

i have seen a portable version using a board as a stand

that one is virtually the same as the dog versions ,a home made one looks a fairly easy scrapheap challenge

Peasridge - nice looking bit of kit but not at that price.

I think we are onto working in wood and DIY (probably won't get done for 10 years, hey ho )
