Just had a log burning stove put in, and tomorrow I'm getting a ton of 4 year seasoned logs delivered, what is the quickest, and cheapest way to put a log store up please?

You can have quick, fast and quality, but you can only have any two, they tell me.

Fence panels, and roofing felt to weather proof the lid?

Dumpy bag with a tin sheet or tarp chucked over it. Not the most practical or nice looking, but meets the spec.

We used a reclaimed double garage door as a roof and fixed this with pallets to existing fencing 6ft tall. It faces away from the weather but is open to the front. Cost us time and nails.
Holds 3 tons wood and a ton of kindling.

tarp n sticks n rope seem a good place to start unless you have a nice bit of scrap like a garage door or whatever

Are you really getting a tonne?

Firewood should not be sold by weight (it encourages it to be sold wet as it weighs more).
TS would jump all over the seller if they have not actually weighed the wood with tested scales.

I'm betting that its a tonne builders bag (the ones you buy sand in that still dont hold a tonne of sand), which wont hold any thing like a tonne of wood. They hold 0.5m3.
Even a 1m3 bag full to bursting wont hold anywhere near a tonne of wood. If its softwood & really is well seasoned the weight would be about 200-250kg for a 1m3 load. Hard wood would be about 250-350kg.

A 3ton Bamford farm tipping trailer with 18in sides,10 x6 ft,filled with logs,heaped in the centre,holds 1 ton of hardwood logs.

Thanks folks, no garage door spare sadly, but posts and a tarp will have to do for now. The farmer lives locally and has a huge barn with wood stored, and he said it comes and is tipped out, and he also said are you sure you will have room for it, so I'm guessing it's more than a bag full. I shall see soon enough....

As firewood sellers, I would definitely agree with Richard about the weight. We know that sort as 'dumpy sack merchants', and they are a total pain as they sound cheap until you see what you get. By the sounds of it though you will be getting a proper load.

If all else fails, we suggest (ideally) a pallet on the ground to stack the wood on and a tarp just on the top so the sun and air can get to the wood. Some will get rain wet, but should dry out again. We also recommend keeping a weeks supply indoors if you can. That way it is as dry as possible when you use it. At the worst, an evenings supply round the fire for next day.

So, the logs arrived on the back of a smallish tipper. Two tons of it! It's in the garage, in the garden covered by a tarp, up the garden, you name it. I think for £90 it's a real bargain, mostly four year seasoned oak. I think it will keep me going for a while.... This pile is half of the load, rest already piled in garage.
