I put them in a jar/cup with enough water to cover them (plus and inch) and put them somewhere warm (next to our boiler). 36 hours is plenty of time - then just plant them as normal.

Mine aren't doing much :/ How about about you guys? Should they take off, what sized pot do think I'd red per plant?

Mine are still growing well...I'm going to plant them up into large pots this weekend and put them in the cold frame. They're still in the conservatory at the moment. They're about twice the size as when I put the pic up. I'm keeping them quite moist.

Hmm. Maybe I need to bring them inside. I put them straight outside in a south facing position, but not in a cold frame or anything.

Four of them have actually come on. :phew: They are about ready to move out of their modules now. What sized pots did you go for in the end? How big are they now?

I harvested my tiger nuts today....well, I tipped them out of the pot and searched amongst the roots. Couldn't find any nodules..only very small tuberous growths (a bit like teeny tiny dahlias). I ate some of the swollen root bits and they taste very nice. Sort of almond/coconut-ish. I don't think I'll bother with them next year

I pulled up one on sunday - from a single plant I got half doxen smaller, hairy little 'nuts'. Disappointing really. They took up valuable space in the poly (in really rich soil) for too long. Not sure if I'll do them again either.

If you have any spare tubers I'd be interested in having a go? Can trade for... well I have a lot of strange things, at the minute a glut of mashua, but a fairly mild-tasting variety. Mashua being the nasturtium with edible tubers. This is one plant at harvest:

What you got? Does the Mashua grow outside where you are? What does it taste like? How long in the ground. etc?
I haven't harvested most of the crop yet - the tops have died back but they are still in the ground.

The mashua likes "coastal" so the long damp days up here have suited it. The tubers are damaged by frost but the piles of foliage protect it somewhat. It was still growing and flowering when I harvested a week or so ago! It was trying to take over the raspberry area. It starts forming tuber as day length gets shorter, so early frosts wouldn't be good.

Taste is....divisive.
Some varieties are described as horseradish pickled in perfume! This one when raw is odd and then "oh god it's burning". Cooked it is very mild, softer than potato, with a hint of horseradish-y sinus clearing.
