So stone is out and wood is in. It sounds an awful lot of fiddling around when you could just cook the stuff over a wood fire outside. I agree with you Dpack; if you use wood as a reflector it can be used up for kindling. Don't think I would fancy reusing a bit of charred wood used to cook fish.
At least forewarned if anyone asks for a plank of wood to use for grilling, and I wouldn't be surprised if they do, and want to know how to treat the wood first. Sigh. |

Well they do say in the article posted to be sure that the wood isn't treated. |

Okay Nick you win, I have figured out that I can usefully add 50cm maybe up to 100cm to the patio.
That will also fix one of the things that has been bugging me a bit about the space. I like spaces to be flexible in how they might be used, and whilst I am planning a gazebo construct and have even got some of the oak already cut and painted, it had occurred to me that the hexagon shape would fall a little short on fitting a 3m popup gazebo which is a pretty standard size
Stretching the hexagon along a dimension will solve that as well. |

I think you'll get the most out of the whole thing when you have more people round; you simply won't light it for the two of you. And when you've got half a dozen people, all with cold beer, a great steak and thin and crispy pizzas and, as chef, you've got somewhere to leave your beer when you make the Nutella pizzas for dessert, you'll thank me. |

I have to confess at this point, that we have a bleeding massive deck and a rather large BBQ
So this whole exercise of making a chunky patio and brick built stuff is all a bit gratuitous. But it's very good fun and I have a lot more muscle than a year ago
You'll have to pop in when you’re down Southampton way! |

The idea now is to extend rightwards, the BBQ stuff will be built behind where the two tiers of sleepers are at the moment. |

Didn't know you were so close Jema, only that you had escaped from Swindon, although where I didn't know. Although I live quite close I haven't 'popped' to Waterlooville, except the new supermarket for ages Nick. |

One of those sensible until you see the location after you've paid ebay moments.
Seven hour round trip. |

That was some journey. Must have added to the price rather a lot. |

lol, not sure that will impress the neighbours!
Shovels are a time away, last week leaves were starting to make a mess of my none to accurately levelled sand, so I figured since there was no major rush I'd pretty much throw the bricks down and correct later, there is a fair bit of correction under way now but I am actually glad I took this approach as it is easy to fix just a little at a time. |
