Mine are a tad leggy - can you plant them lower like you do with leggy tomatoe plants or is it asking for trouble?

If they're just small seedlings, yes you can plant them lower, just be careful not to snap them as they can be more brittle than tomatoes (perhaps water the seedlings after transplanting and not before).
Don't plant above the seed leaves however. |
