hello glad you are ok if very busy.

the sheep to jumper thing sounds fun but very hard with a bald baah and only 2 hrs

suitably woolly and a week or so seems more practical but still rather intense.

busy can be ok but you do need some rest time now and again.

Welcome home! Where does this no rest for the wicked come from, what have you been up to without our guidance? I really enjoyed all the house things you were doing, so as soon as the photos decide to behave lets have a look, please; I am guessing that it is now palatial!

I think the last time we were in contact your back fence was playing up. Locally we are catching up with you, as my local town now has had a men's shed for nearly a year! I am tempted, but as you know kindling calls and I am well set up at home for that, but about a month behind as per normal. A local shop has just given up kindling selling, so I have no real competition, needing to saw chop and net around 30 nets a week average so far this winter, which I didn't know about for about 2 weeks before the season started; roll on central heating being switched on. I would have got going properly if I had known. This weekend I aim to do around 40 if I can, but not sure if I have enough dry timber or the stamina!

There is always some bad news-I may have to come over to Australia in a couple of years time-my school friends of over 60 years came over from Brisbane for about 3 months-both now retired-and have said I am to go back with them next time they come to UK in 2021. They are threatening to take me to see the sights and they like 'Tassi' as they call your Island and so I will be coming over, all in theory as yet, and I have been bidden to get a passport! I would rather travel by ship, but have been "told, no"!
Don't panic with age, you are still a kitten in my age terms, and age brings sense-in theory. I hope you celebrated your birthday at the crepe shop-yes?

Well MR, you are lucky we have had rain all day not heavy, but a persistent rain, the sort you get very wet in, and in a short space of time, and I, muggins, do the outside work in these conditions-kill the old ones off first is the policy here! The good bit is I get to come home and get dry at half time, the others are still there working, ha ha! But now it is back to the wood-see you all in the morning

Gregotyn, you have been threatening to come for several years now. I have stopped holding my breath, but I really do hope you manage it at some time. I am quite looking forward to it.

As for age, it always comes as a surprise to me as I don't feel a day over 30 and still have quite a bit to get done before I lie down for a permanent nap, so no worries here.

Today was our Historical costume group of which I am a social member only, having done all the sewing I am likely to need, but I took the machine in to give it a service as it was locking up last time I used it. It is still locking up, and now even the foot pedal doesn't activate it, so it may be time to retire it in favour of a $50.00 one from Spotlight. More complex sewing can be dealt with by the treadle, but it is good to have a small portable one.

Tonight I have been talked into going to a quiz night which will be enjoyable only for the company - I hate going to such things generally as most of the questions are about sport and I know nothing on that subject.

Tomorrow will be cleaning the bank, paying back the $40.00 for the bag of kettle-dyed fleece I acquired last Sunday, and possibly time sitting knitting with friends (or not, depends how I feel).

Monday I am off to drive someone to Hobart for their appointment, so a little more knitting may be achieved then too.

Lovely to hear from you again Cassandra. You have been busier than you sounded on FB!

We occasionally have fleece to jumper events here, but usually start with a fleece, so at least the quality is known before the start. Look forward to seeing your pictures if and when you manage to convince your camera to talk to your phone. Don't trust electronics an inch, it is all out to get you.

Living in the town for a while will save you some travel, and being near the crepe shop may be an advantage, but not for your figure. I hope your friend manages to sort out the financial situation, as from the sounds of it, the shop is a great asset.

I wish you luck with the hall committee. It sounds as if they as good as they always used to be. Try to keep your cool, and be polite, even if they are a load of silly old fools.

We had a rather nasty happening yesterday. We had some of the mini dumpy sacks delivered and an hour later they had disappeared. I can't think what anyone would want 100 1 foot cube dumpy sacks for, so can only assume someone thought the bales contained something else of interest. I have informed the police and put it out on our local FB pages in case anyone comes across them dumped. Have been in touch with the supplier, and they have verbally agreed to replace them at their or the couriers cost as they shouldn't have just dumped them only about 20' from a busy road. Apart from the trouble it has caused us, and the cost, hopefully to the supplier or courier, it always leaves a rather nasty taste in the mouth that someone would do that sort of thing.

Good policy not to hold your breath, Cassandra, with anything I say, as I like to be sure now. You would be longer getting your pension in the UK at 65. My neighbour who is now 60 has to go on till she is 67 or 68 I think; she is lucky, she has a job and plenty of money, but when you have paid in you want it out when you get there and the top brass is raising the goal posts.

As a boy I was seen as someone who did the job, but often twice, dive in and oops! But the threat of a visit is still hanging over you all down there. I won't be getting old as I have too much to occupy myself with before I go elsewhere. The one thing that stopped me coming your way for some time is my little business, I have to get half a years supply of kindling ready before I can go anywhere for any length of time, and find a distributor for the same, although I would be coming in your winter to spring, I couldn't cope with the heat in the Australian summer. If I am spending money I will want value for it when I get there-it won't be a touch down say hello and go home job!

The loss of your dumpy bags is despicable, MR, what do they teach people today? I would rather give anything away than have it stolen. I lock all my sheds and the external gate, a real pain, but it seems enough to have been a deterrent so far. When I had horse people grazing here I issued them all with a key, and their own padlock, and if it was unlocked at their point, I took their lock off. Next time they would be out, but only happened once!
What I don't understand-being nosey, is what you put in a 1 cu. ft. dumpy bag, seems small to me. But to leave them so close to the road seems stupidity. But they do give some of these drivers almost impossible numbers of deliveries to complete in a day; a neighbour had 'stuff' delivered at 8 pm one evening.

Not a lot to report for me, I am just busy with wood, it is presently flying off the shelves, I wish folks would fire up the central heating, I can hardly keep up with the demand for kindling-by which time I will be on top of it and nowhere to put the excess the viscous circle!.

My "Grand Plan" is to retire soon after Christmas-you are the first to know-don't tell anyone else! My income halves-and my costs will go up. I just need to get my memory into shape-I won't be able to afford to forget!

a potential 2 cubic foot of class A's or other contraband would be worth a look? i can think of a few places where packages are dropped out of a light aircraft prior to a legal landing.
a potential paranoia dump from a vehicle would be worth a look?
a delivery of something somebody else paid for would be worth a look

grab and get disappointed , very plausible but rather annoying.

some folk will grab owt that is not nailed down, sometime they take an unprofitable risk, sometimes it pays off.

might be worth having a look on ebay etc to see if you can "replace" them locally

Gregotyn, remember Tass has a climate similar to ours but the bit Cassandra is in is windier, so late spring might be all right but winter will probably be worse than up your mountain.

We put logs in the 1cu foot dumpy sacks; it is enough for about 10, so a reuasable alternative to log nets which take about 12-14, so we sell them to our suppliers for a little less plus the deposit on the sacks.

I will get our son to keep an eye on e-bay, because I don't do that sort of thing. We have had a drive through a likely dumping place, found some garden waste, but not our sacks sadly. I am hoping the supplier will replace them free. They have agreed verbally, but am hoping they will let me know so I can be home to receive them. Getting them indoors will be a fun game, but if all else fails I should be able to drag them.

We found someone had cut a fence in the woods yesterday when we went to dig out the sump with our volunteer group. Probably their dog got the wrong side of it and they had a multitool with them. Can't think of any other reason. Sump dug out and fence repaired, so if anyone was using it for access, they know that we both know and do something about it. People can be so annoying.

umm.

access would be trackable, even with one pass if it was fairly recent, multiple passes are easy to track

i assume this is tall deer fencing? if so it may be access to pop the lurchers in to see if they are kept in rather than out or other wildlife crime intent.

might be a wrong un looking for equipment or owt else of value.

might be a fairly harmless but daft kid or adult playing out and getting stuck

2 incidents you know of in a short time is a bit disturbing.

hope it gets resolved by whatever means.

The cut wire was barbed wire between the private part of the wood and between the part to which the general public have access, right next to a public footpath. We were up in the 'yard' and everything seems to be in order. Some people just object to anything being private and think they have rights to go where they want. In fact we could prevent them going to any part of the wood, but we don't. The wood and home are about 2 miles apart and most people don't know the connection between the two.

Oh dear MR. What is wrong with people today? Taking for takings' sake. I think, much as I don't like the idea, as it would spoil the woodland, that maybe a few notices that there are, with the aim of deterrent, hidden cameras, and hope this has some effect in the future. Glad the yard is in tact, but never nice to know someone has been around where they shouldn't have been. A good idea to watch ebay for local sales from folks who wouldn't normally sell logs, as you will already know who does your way. I have used a gun as a deterrent-under the guise of shooting pigeons, a long time ago now!
When I had my delivery of nets they were very heavy and now I would need help in getting them off the ground! The lowest amount was 4000 which arrived on a pallet. Some funny people cut fences for their entertainment, MR, I had a problem at work where I keep boxes for the fitters to put there needs in when they go to sites to do a job. We have one boy who is a bit doolally, and he and my boss decided that I had too many, so one Saturday he and the nut case boy ripped all the boxes I had kept for their use; for the next week I did the same thing, so when the b's needed boxes there were none. The amusement they had to see how I would react was interesting, by the end of the week they sent another lad to ask me to keep some boxes, which I duly did; but hasn't happened again!

Thanks for the tip on Tasmania and its climate, MR; I would be going to Aus. in their winter/spring, so it shouldn't be too hot for me. You would soon know-I would be back on an earlier flight!

I was thinking if you put up notices that the woodland is private, you can possibly add a few deterrents, trip wires and the like. You need to talk to the police about it, sooner rather than later.

"please respect the wasp and hornet conservation area"

Confrontational has its place but diplomacy is war by other means

alarm mines triggered by moving kit or logs seems reasonable, set a decent distance from the trigger is both safe and much more scary.

do bad stuff> bang over there>silence=terrifying

not many rogues are robust enough to do more bad stuff at that moment and it is an alarm which can be acted upon.

about a tenner a set, bag of blanks a fiver, roll of fishing line and a few drawing pins etc knocking about somewhere

i like them.
