can i grow chickpeas? reason i ask is, i soaked some chickpeas for a soup but did not use them so i put them in my kitchen waste container, when i next looked they had started to shoot. so, could i plant them and would they grow?

You can eat them sprouted - although the usual practice is to change the water frequently to avoid quite the wrong type of bugs setting up home in your dinner-to-be - and I believe Tahir's mum at least grows/has grown them regularly, here, from shop bought ones.

Which reminds me, I tried sprouting a few Puy lentils which I spilt in a dusty part of the kitchen last month purely to see if they were viable. They were. But as a good girl not growing things I don't have room for this year (if I say it often enough I'll start to believe it) I composted them.

They will definitely grow and can stand a little frost too.

I suppose that means you want me to find a place on the lottie for you to plant them...... by the way, how's the recovery going.

hey mad dad! i already planted them, i only faked my "problem" so i could watch you dig!!
no really, i'm fine now only 18 weeks then i'm definately a jaffa!!
