Even with just three hens we decided to use two drinkers. One open bowl and one of those ones with a reservoir. Open one was easier to know over and the reservoir one was prone to cloging up with shavings, but with two one lasted the day. Raised on a brick helps keeping them clean and when we get more hens I'll get one of those hangy reservoir type drinkers. Not sure what everyone else uses.

We all want to know: how are they? Mine are very lucky: they drink out of a pond and stream with a drinker for back-up. Also seen drinking the dew-drops off the fence...

We've got a magnificent Silkie cockerel if anyone wants one - free to a good home (or oven?). It's either a new home for him, or I'll be making use of that jointing article.... Cheers, David.

All fine, shat everywhere but happy enough, went to bed on their own last night too.

When it says that silkies dont fly they mean it, they don't even bother to hop up onto the perches.

And for the macho chicken breeders above, silkies are very good with kids, broody and surprisingly hardy. Which is why they still survive as a breed despite the average egg production. They won't be our only breed but I reckon they're a good one to have around in a small flock.

The three ducklings that I bought from Sunnyside were hatched and reared by a Silkie Good little mummy she was, too, despite the ducklings being three times her size Anna-marie

Bet you're relieved, eh?! Bit like when you send the kids off for the first day at school! If they're good broodies then they're OK in my book. I have a Silver Spangled Hamburg Bantam who I think is sitting: I only see her for a few minutes a day and I can't find her nest anywhere. Just hoping she'll appear one day with a few tinies in tow!
