Does anyone do it? Any recommendations? Warnings? Suggestions?

My trading will be very modest (at least to start with), I just want to buy a few more shares in a company I'm already invested in to use up my ISA allowances.

I'd rather pay a little more for quality service/reliability/ease of use etc than go for the cheapest, but I don't really know what to look for so if anyone has experience to share I'd be grateful.

We've used both Egg and Smile on-line trading. Egg's defunct now I fink, but Smile were quite good and cheap. Not sure about putting them into an Isa wrapper through them though - don't know how that works

Smile use selftrade and there will be info on their site about setting up an ISA share wrapper.

Smile are also the only bank with an Ethical Policy. Their claim, not mine. Part of the co-op, and I bank with them and have never had a problem. Ever. I guess their ethical policy could be to invest in major arms dealers and drug barons, etc, but I doubt it.

Also with Smile, even though you do it on-line, if you have any problems, the telephone help-desk is really helpful (strange for a help desk I know, but true )

But smile don't run their share dealing service, Selftrade do! So it doesn't matter how good smile is (I use them) you need to find out what people think of Selftrade.

Ish, but Smile claim their ethical policy extends to all the services they offer. I would assume they've done their homework on Selftrade.

I can't see how Selftrade could claim to be ethical as they will happily make their money from people dealing in tobacco, arms, animal experiments, oil etc (actually, I bet that would make a decent portfolio

The main question is about customer service and I've found them quick to pick up a phone and answer questions. I think they could have a bit more online help available and make a few things clearer but I expect all the online share dealing sites to be similar.
