A few years ago, I visited Flores in Indonesia were I saw people weaving using backstrap looms. Since then, I’ve been intrigued by the simplicity of this weaving method, but been unable to find out much about it. The internet searches I’ve done give rather vague and general information which I already know, but no detail.

Does anyone know about backstrap weaving?

there are several weaving styles you can do by using your body as one of the tensioning points, rigid heddle weaving or Inkle weaving are probably the simplest to pick up.

Try your local library - they should have books on weaving techniques. The staff will help if you can't find what you are looking for on the shelves.

I remember reading about this a while back.
The loom is suspended above the weaver and a strap is fastened to the end nearest the person, which is then strapped around behind them so they lean back and the work is tensioned.
I think it mentioned American indians having used it.
