ive come home from holiday to discover my courgette plant has a pumpkin in it...i think i must have made a mistake with some seeds at some point, oh well!! oh and my courgettes are now turning into marrows!

I'm even more confused - we've got some pumpkins/squash from the same mixed bag of seed that I sent Sally which have now got fruit on it - not just small fruit but great big enourmous things that to be honest look ready to me - but I'm not sure whether I should leave them or take them off so that the small fruit on them will continue to grow.

That's my concern too. I don't want to end up with loads of huge pumpkins cos we won't use them.

Reply to Tahir - Yes, there are three little ones - perhaps a bit smaller than a tennis ball in size.

Well I'd let it ramble for a bit then, provided you've got the room and it has enough food and water to be getting on with. Of course if you want huge pumpkins then you need to pinch out (just the flowers or the complete growing tips????)

I'm sure of the logic in pinching out some to make others grow bigger, but my best & biggest three are growing right up against each other in a little (well, maybe not so little) bunch. Have to think of some recipes with pumpkin, peas, sweetcorn & tomatillos this year, as they seem to be doing the best (probably because that bed had most pig muck dug in).

There shouldn't be any need to pinch out the tips for bigger pumpkins just yet. What does help is loads of feed, either already in the soil, or added. You can also cover the vines/shoots with some soil. They put down additional roots, which help to draw up more food and water. Provided that they get enough water they will grow nicely.
