Why burn it, when you can put it in a rag bank to be reprocessed into industrial cleaning cloths etc? And the springs can go to the municipal tip and be put in the metal bin.

god that sounds really disgusting................like nightmare on elm street with posture springing............
can the dogs join in ? (bad dogs )
loads of useful things in a mattress
mabye we can hunt them to extinction and sleep in hammocks
the springs stabilise a slope for years ,long enough for plants to establish

when i was digging at the bottom of this particular garden, there were mattress springs in the ground so truly the hutning dogs had left the bare bones having devoured the meat of the beast...........
Oh, Gawd. Now I'm fretting over what type of new mattress to buy, that'll be a) good for my spine, b)within my price range, c) create the leat impact upon the environment.
I feel like Leo Hickman (His book recommends an organic latex mattress. So, wossat when it's at home?).

we have to buy a kingsized mattress but it won't be a real posh one
we have slept on a king size bed frame holding a regular mattress for years and it is time to ditch the old one and get something that fits the bed...............
today we did a tip run as we are moving and as you know you always have some things for the tip
anyway one thing we had was a futon mattress that is only rally a cushion of kapok with a linen covering ........i told the guy a the tip and said where can we recycle it please and he just looked at me as if i were from another planet and pointed to the general household rubbish thing..........i was a bit put out actually, it is virtually all recyclable.......
If you had had the time, I suppose you could have taken the futon apart ... as you say, it is mainly just cotton or linen covering kapok. Both of those are 100% compostable

the wire parts are great for climbing sweetpeas up . to cut down a mattress run a sharp knife all tound the sides( gussets) cutting through the tie string when you get to the end the sides will fall away then the top panels will lift off if you have buttonholed mattress you may need to just cut the cords holding the buttons .these make use of in some way for holding material together etc /the fibre material is a coir base and can be used in the garden . the materail can just be put in a rag bin .. hopes that helps ,, one day at TOWER BEDDING on a school trip payed off at last
