Am I being dense? What does it do? Not come across these before.

What I am imagining is cooking 'things' on the stone, but what are the little pans for?

you put raclette cheese in the pans and it melts and you pour it over potato or any vegetables, I didnt know you could get them with grills on top, I have only seen the cheese melter sort before

Well, I've got one, and when the french market came, I bought some raclette cheese. It's an innovative way of getting your guests to melt their own cheese and dunking veg in it, I suppose.

Am I missing something? I was going to freecycle ours!

see we didn't just melt out own cheese

we soften onions, added toms and steak, covered with egg and cheese and grilled for a bit and served with boil potatoes

or of course you could have any variety of said ingredients in any combinations you fancied

so while not too far off dipping veg in melted cheese slightly more entertaining

I have also been pondering other styles of food using the same idea, fish would work well as would rice and egg etc so I think I would get a far amount of use out of it

I am now investigating ebay for one!

this looks quite promising!

If it weren't for the fact that my mother bought it for us it would be yours. Perhaps I can lose it in the move (that always seems like a good excuse!)

If you go to car boots you'll often see them there, once you know what you are looking for. They are good fun but I only use mine every now and again

We were only saying on Sunday that we hadn't used ours for ages. Really good way of spending a couple of hoursd eating.

Making lots of sauces, and different strips of meat/veg, gives a huge variety of things to try,

Looks like I'm going to have to dig ours out again.

Thanks for starting this thread

I have a Tefal one just like the Camile's, also bought in France - they're great for a group meal as you can prepare everything in advance & then everybody cooks their own. There are a range of different raclette cheases here, pasturized, unpasturized, smoked, with peppercorens, with chilli, with ham etc - the favourite in my family is the smoked. We normally melt the cheese and pour it over boiled potatoes with gherkins & pickled onions acompanied by a selection of jambon cru (raw ham), salami & bresola and a salad. Warning - the room tends to get quite warm after a bit
For the pierrade we usually do strips of beef, chicken or pork along with sliced mushrooms, peppers, courgette and aubergine all cooked on either the grill plate or the stone. We accompany this with chips and salad and a range of sauces to dip the cooked meat into - aoli, rouille, mexican, bourgignon(sp), chilli
These 2 meals along with meat fondue (fondue bougignon) are the favourite meals when the family comes over
