Watch the laminate, as it comes off if it keeps getting too wet.

I got a sample through.

Interesting stuff. It would take up more depth than tiles, and lack a certain quality close up. I would not want to use as an alternative to wall tiling.

But for a ceiling and "sacrificial" panel, I think it will be great. For a start it will mean that I can keep my existing shower

I'd like to bump this, as I changed my mind. Each strip of this stuff is to narrow on its own, so I'd need to use 3 together, which is messy.

Maybe plastic safety glass? Still no luck finding backing panels specifically for showers.

Just managed one wall of tiling above the old bath, will do the ends tomorrow and hopefully get the new bath in Sunday or Monday.

So inspiration on this issue is getting urgent

I think B&Q do shower backing panels, which might work.

B&Q defaintely do them - I did my bathroom just before christmas. But they are quite pricey about £40 each! And they are only about six foot tall - if that - which is a bit difficult if the top of your shower rail is going to start at that height, or you want to go right up to the ceiling with it. The good news is they are easy to cut with a stanley blade if needs be, and easy to stick up - use that no nails stuff. And, even better they come down and go back up easily when you've messed up the plumbing in the false wall behind it, and it all starts leaking. Might be ideal if you replace the shower rail/shower often.

Can you find one on their web site? I have looked in store and on the site without any luck.

just having a look at the website now. THe B&Q near me is a huge superstore one, and they were in with the bath panels and shower enclosures. If you look on their shower displays in the shop, they are used for those. They come in white and silver. Maybe blue too.

ok, have rung B&Q cos I couldn't find them on the website either. White are £34.98, and silver £49.98. They are called tiled wall kits and the bar code for any one wanting to order them is 5031978185005 for the white ones. They are not available through website (why we couldn't find them ) - only in stores.

Thanks a lot. I will call B&Q in a minute. Silver sounds good, as I am doing various chrome bits.

Frankly I'm just happy to know that I'm not hallucinating bathroom fitments.

Well what they showed me at B&Q was not what I want.

So what have bought is a clear polystyrene sheet of the right size. I will paint one side silver, and give it some sort of edging.

Also paid a small fortune in the tileshop for some chrome strips which will go round the ceiling like coving. Pissed me off immensely I must say.

If you have a drench head, you don't need a rail, and no-one needs to adjust the height of the shower (beleive me, I know, I'm 5 foot tall!)

They are also really nice showers!

I quite like the look of those, but the idea is to use a perfectly good working power shower until it dies, before buying again.
