I'd go Sept/Oct too, for same reasons, taking

tent
sleeping bag
stove
sharp knife
axe
pan
gun etc (or a Bodger to make and lay snares for me)
washing up liquid
forage bags
bottle of malt

That's my list as well, but only 1 bottle of Malt? Come on this is a two week outing more like 4 I should say

Luxury item would be a "Ray Mears"-wouldn't need to take much else except spices to add flavour to his cooking.

I was thinking of running my own version of " I'm a Downsizer get me out of Here"

You would have to do reverse jungle tucker challenges. Make them eat packet / procesed food / take aways. Open a tin / packet as killing & gutting wont hold any fears for most smallholders.

Machete
Opinel knife
sleeping bag
saucepans
Tarpaulin
hessian sacks (as many as the rule allowed)
Huge ball of string/cord
firesteel
wind up torch
water container

A gun is NOT on the list because I'd not be lurking about on my own for any length of time without being able to defend myself!

Some provisions.
Something nice to drink - Cabernet Sauvignon, it goes with everything.
A good hunter.
A good angler.
A not more than usual unobliging cook (it's so hard to get decent people today!)
Somebody to do the dishes.
OH.
A safari tent and some decent beds. The dishwasher can raise the tent - economize!
A good 4WD - I wouldn't like to walk too much.
Tony Blair caged up with an apple in his mouth for entertainment.

mid winter.

1. my knife
2. fire steel
3.tarp
4.roll of wire
5.fishing kit
6.bottle for water
7.helograph mirror
8.cooking pot
9.compass

with these i could survive for about a month ,matbe longer, but hopefully a good deal sooner. the trick is to survive in your mind,be positive look for the good things about yer predicerment.and get bussy, get a shelter up first, the weather may worsten, sort a fire warmth is a must and its good for morale.source some water.set about finding food, sod the wildlife and countryside act this is survival! fishing kit is as good for birds as fish and any amount of food is good, worms canbe found very easily under things get them drying on hot stones, good ground up and addedto soups/stews,now this is done i would sort some form of signall visible from thr air,big enough to be seen from altitude,an x would do spelling help would be silly why else would you be signalling!!!
in a worst case scenario i wouldnt attempt travelling to civiliseation in winter i would wait till spring leaving clue as to direction being travelled.
