Curiously, most Mancs vehemently deny living in Manchester saying "No mate this is Cheshire/Bolton/Salford or wherever. Some get violent (e.g. Bolton) others threaten to sue (the bits that claim to be in Cheshire).

At least thats been my experience, not that I've been trying to wind them up you understand.

I was born and bred 3 miles out of the city center. So I am very proudly a Mancunian although I don't support either of the Football teams.
I am fed up of people having a go at my home town. We have our problems like anywhere else. But as you say other areas are lumped in as they come under GREATER MANCHESTER.
Alot of people with the so called Manchester acsent come from Salford where there has been lot's of trouble, And they always get labled Manchester. ie. the band oasis arn't from Manchester but Salford.
I yusualy get told I have a posh acsent but I don't I just don't change my th's to f's like most lazy talkers round here.
And as for Oldham what's the problem there apart from the raceal fights. which by the way were happening in London in the not to distant past.

Sorry rant over. But I'm just so fed up with it all.

Sorry goldy1. I know I shouldn't, but I have a self control problem. I like Hulme, seems to be a community of greenie types growing there.

I was born in Manchester and consider it my home city.

It's a cracking place which has undergone a massive amount of redevelopment since the IRA bombing of the Arndale Centre.

I love it. It has the best Chinatown anywhere, the people are friendly and great and the shops pretty damned cool......and of course there's beautiful countryside within a stones throw in all directions.

Nuff said!!

I'm Manchester born and bred and very proud to be so. I go back there as often as I can and have a great affection for the place. It is a wonderful city.
