It doesn't offer a particularly positive retail "experience" but they do have some good stuff. Check out the chocolate, the chocolate biscuits, the... OK the charcouterie, cleaning products, nuts...
The hardware specials rotate annually, but some things show up a few times a year, and there are also seasonal food specials like Pannetone...

I think you kind of highlight the point for me, given the lack of butchers and greengrocers in Swindon, I look for these things being good in a supermarket. I don't go to them looking for more esoteric things.

Just had a look at the website and now I've got two lidl days out to look forward to . I'm so excited - I'll be first in the queue. Maybe we should arrange coach trips to lidl

I've just got to get my car working in time, I got in it this morning to go to the scrap yard to get my window regulator and the battery was as flat as a pancake

I've just pickes up an Aldi flyer on the way home. They're getting self assemly plastic greenhouses in on the 3rd. 1.2m long, 1.25m wide, 1.2m high. Roll up zip door, reinforced PVC plastic. Held down with lots of tent pegs.

A penny under thirty quid.

Sound like a good deal?

Excellent - I had something very similar until it was the victim of a hit and run. it isn't huge and it won't last for ever, but it'll do very nicely for a few tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, chillis and sweetcorn.

I don't think we've got an Aldi either. Humph!

Wellington, if you have a Poundstretcher or a Wilkinsons near you, you can get pretty much the same thing for similar prices.

It doesn't look like I'm going to make Aldi on Thursday, I'll be stuck in waiting for workmen again

Forgot Wilkinsons, who can be good, but equally they can sell crap. I have had stuff from them fall apart It is the good old, it is cheaper to pay for quality argument again!

I would think Pondstretcher and Wilkinson sell cheap stuff at cheap prices as their normal range, Lidl probably sell 'loss leaders' or whatever you call them, selling often good stuff at a subsedised price, to get people into the shop to buy their other goods. I am writing this sitting at a Lidle desk made of solid pine (and judging by the wide anual rings its probably from managed fast-grown timber sources) bought for £25 including two drawers, a shelf and a pull-out thingy for the keyboard. Most chip board desks go for 2-4 times more.

I stand admonished

I think I was just trying to console myself with the fact that I probably won't make it to Lidl's this week

Always worth trying on your next visit. Occasionally things do last for a week or more. You just stand a better chance with the more popular stuff if you get there early. In fact, I thought the desks would be sold out by 10 am the first day, being such a good price, they still had a few the following week. But last week the wireless CCTV camera was gone by early afternoon the first day.

That's true, I do have to take my mother shopping on Friday anyway, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed that they have some left.
