I've got some Garlic that somehow escaped the harvest last year and has sprung up in exactly the wrong place - If I was careful could I dig them up and move them to the proper Garlic bed or would they get all sulky with me ?

For the cost of a few cloves I'd just plant more as spring planted blubs in the right place. Do you have enough left over from last year's harvest to use for planting?

I've already planted the rest of my garlic - its just that they are growing so beautifully it seems a shame to pull them up and kill them when I could move them if possible - its just they are in the wrong place.

I've got away with moving garlic. Dug out around some, keeping the whole lump of earth that it was in more or less intact, and swapped it with a lump of earth from where I was moving it to.

Thanks Cab - Thats what I sorta planned on doing - so I'll shift 'em and then I can use the bed for my potatoes as I'd planned. There is only about 5 plants anyway

Mine is in pots as I didn't have anywhere to put them last Autumn - I was assured they'd be fine. Presumably if you can do that (I'll plant them out when I get around to it! Hopefully in the next month or so) then you can move them about. Lx

I've moved garlic before, they had only just started shooting, and they were fine.

I know someone who routinely plants garlic, onions and shallots in modules, and plants them out on her allotment later, so they can't be that fussy!

I'd give it a go, after all there is not much to lose by trying and alot to be gained. It can be surprising what you can get away with. A couple of years ago we transplanted a whole load of rogue spud plants in May. Went on to produce a fine crop. You never know until you give it a go! www.viableselfsufficiency.co.uk
