What settings do I need to change on Mandy's laptop (running Windows XP) to get it to use the router? The router is up and running. The laptop has an ethernet connection and the router knows it's there.
The router is a Netgear DG834, if that makes any odds.

Do you know the IP address of the router?

If you know the IP address you just need to put it into the correct location (gateway?) on your Network/TCPIP/Properties tab.

This is making me so happy that I don't have to use Windows any more.

Control Panel>Network & Internet Connections>Network Connections>LAN or High Speed Internet Connections>Right Click>Properties>Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)>Default Gateway

I think default gateway is where you need to put the address of the router

Thanks. I'm going to let Mandy do it. Life's too short.

When I got my XP PC I just connected it to the router as if I was connecting to a network and it all worked.

I've given up now. It doesn't seem to like me changing settings anyway. I probably don't have admin status on it.
