I'm fairly certain I've found a big stash of wild garlic, but just want to make sure it is what I think it is before I go picking some & using.

It certainly smells & looks like stuff I've had before but thought I'd check incase there are any imposters that could give me the trots or worse!

I've not managed to dig up the root yet as I didn't have anything on me at the time to dig some up:

You should be able to tell by the smell from a fair distance away

and there's no need to dig it up. The leaves should be flavour enough

This is wild garlic. I don't know what that is, but I'm going to find out because I found some today as well. I think wild leek maybe.
Cab will know.

It looks similar to the crow garlic I found locally, does the stem have any ridges/grooves on?

Maybe. The patch I found had buds ready to open which will help. The crow garlic seems to have quite distinctive flowers. I'll check the leaves too.

The only smell from it is when you bruise/scrape the leaves & it'svery subtle garlicy/oniony

I've established it isn't wild garlic now. It does have grooves on the stem yes, very much like a leek.

It is growing on a cliff top overlooking the sea, if that helps ?

I would now put money on wild leeks!

Close up pic of a specimen would really help, can't make a good stab without. And pics when its in flower would help too.

Proper wild leek (and the other one Babbingtons Leek) are both rather rare. Crow garlic is my first bet, or field garlic.

The leaves; are they flat like those of a leek or round like a chive?

Looks like what we have on our drive, and I'd always assumed that was chive

Went and looked again at my mystery patch. It is odd, I don't recall seeing it there in previous years. Anyway, it definitely has big grooves on the stem side of the leaves, making it crow garlic I believe.

However, it is growing in a very different environment (inland valley bottom near a stream) from fear-the-hand's so may not be the same stuff.

Can I just humbly point out that what ever it is you shouldn't be digging it up!
