Do you have any vegetables that you just are not destined to grow? For me it is peas. I love peas, and I so want to be able to wander down to the veg patch and stuff myself stupid with peas straight from the vine.
But I just don't seem to be able to grow them - something always goes wrong. Old garden it was the combination of slugs and not enough light that did for the emerging seedlings. Here, the seeds just disappear. Prime suspects are voles and collared doves, although my own dear chickens are not totally beyond suspicion. I've tried netting them with various types of netting, but they still disappear. So this year I decided to be clever. I thought I'd try the planting in a piece of guttering trick. Sowed the seeds and put it in our unheated lean-to porch. Went to look at it yesterday and, you've guessed it, some bloody mouse has nicked every single pea seed, leaving little indentations where each one used to be
I give up.

I've never had any success with spinach or courgettes. This year, with an allotment with a bit more light than my shaded garden, that will hopefully change.

Brassicas, got a pair of great big fat wood pigeons that virtualy live in our garden, as soon as they see a cabbage, broccoli, pak choi or similar they jump on it.
