Particularly if it's my own thread, I tend to update it even months after the last post, if I have something to add.

However, I've noticed that people I know to be interested in the subject (honest, sometimes people are interested in what I say ) don't pick up on these threads, probably because the subject has changed or they didn't realise it was something interesting.

Treacodactyl suggests it's better to start a new thread; I think it's more helpful to add, but I'd like to know what the whole world thinks.

So come on, get practising for May/June/July/whenever Tony thinks he'll do best and vote!

I don't use a hard and fast rule, but I think if an old thread has strayed or been hijacked I tend to start a new one.

I don't know, I have loads of questions but am always afraid to post too much as a site I used to use got really upset if you started too many threads, so I try to look back but don't always have much luck with the search facility.

Please don't be afraid to post questions at all. One of the main aims of this site is that people are willing to share the knowledge they have, whatever level and area that's in, and questions give more people the opportunity to join in. You may (in fact I think you already have, several times!) find that you actually know more than the people you're asking! Which doesn't put you any further forward but should reassure you that questions are contributions just as much as answers.

Every question you ask helps the site. People want to know the same answers and want to help, and the more people post, the more people look, the more the site grows.

Moggins you and me both! I'm getting braver and post things while hoping no one laughs.

One things for sure - no one here will mind you starting new threads at all

Thanks for the reassurance, I'll post away happy in the knowledge that my ignorance may be useful to someone

I try to update my old ones, unless they have gone off on a tangent and they so often do on here.

I'm with the majority for updating. I think it must be useful, especially if you're updating the results of something that you've tried, for people to see the background (ie what you actually did)

I think like Jema it depends if by the time I get to a topic most of the replies are now discussing other matters I will tend to make a new post but if it still seems on topic I will continue on the current thread
