How do I know this? I spend half my time answering e-mails such as "I've just posted the cheque, will my order arrive by Sunday?"

Q: Has my order been despatched yet?
A: No, I've been too busy replying to e-mails about when orders will arrive

What fun Now, must go to the Post Office...

myfreeforum seems to have a Christmas slump As we rely on advertising income that is counter intuitive, but we are following a similar pattern to last year on this

Trade has been rubbish, but there are still the last minuters out there it seems.

You need to do what his Nickness does - take the money now and deliver in six months

I cover a service contract on Christmas Day. If the machine breaks, I have to deal with it. If it breaks, I get Da Big Moola.

Where Big = enough to more than make up for missing out on one of the biggest family days of the year. Make 'em pay!

You just have to work out how much you want to persuade you that a trip to wherever late on Christmas Eve. £100? £250? £500? You never know, someone will pay...

And, as Andrew says, get money now, for products later. People are only too happy to pay a deposit. If nothing else, it helps them spread the cost. I wonder, should I be regulated by the FSA...

Dh is also self-employed, we've had a few months run of messages along the lines of 'the cheque is in the post'. One is now almost 12 weeks outstanding

we can beat that - did a job for the NHS at the beginning of July - finally got paid just before xmas It was our biggest job ths year and would hae been what we lived on - instead we lived on my settlement which was meant for the house. Why people think they can mess about with the self employed beats me....

That's awful!

I've done work for Social Services (emergency foster daycare) and they're also notoriously bad at paying. I ended up phoning them every day to hassle them. I think it has something to do with being public sector

Public sector are always slow payers. But generally unlikely to default. Trade-off. Remember to factor that into your cash flow when you deal with such organisations.
