Lidl is German isn't it? Nearer to me than to you so we should be getting all the best stuff first surely?

P.s. Sorry Jonnyboy, I aren't ignoring your earlier reply to the "new kitchen garden forum" topic. In fact I am working on examples right now (between posts) I hope to put together a mock web page of what the results might bring just to give an idea. Takes time tho'

The fishing stuff is back in the UK stores from next Monday, 31/03/2008. For the price I don't have any complaints about the fishing equipment I bought previously and, if we can, will try and get another 2.4m sea fishing rod & real for £14.99. They also have a 9 LED headlight for £2.99 which could be tempting...

There's lots of fishing stuff, but, y'know, I don't think they've ever offered the smoke box in (at least in this part of) mainland UK. My continuing thanks to Jonnyboy for sending one over.

Cold smoking is the really eccentric thing to do. You have to keep the bally things in for hours if not days. Hot smokers are for common people, thats why I've got one.

Fair point and it's something I have thought about, although being quite far from the sea there isn't a local tackle shop near me and I'd probably look to buy a few bits online otherwise.

Though LIDL pay rates and stay open all year too. Living here I'd go to a specialist if I wanted fishing kit because I could probably get some advice at the same time. It's a bit trickier for potential sea anglers based in Tooting or somewhere though.

I've thought of that as well. We are likely to go very early in the morning when they're not open. Plus, living far from the sea when we do visit we want to spend as much time actually doing something rather than shopping.

I also admit there's also the matter of cost £15 for a rod, reel and line.

Its good, no, its damn good, for fish.
A handful of sawdust gives about 20 minutes or so of smoke.
Its an outdoor thing for certain, the vent/knob doesn't even try to seal it shut.
Control is by guessing, based on whether or not, or how much, smoke comes out of the knob/vent. I haven't played games with teabags instead of sawdust or part-smoking, part-indoor-roasting meats. I mean to.
But, even for fish alone, worthwhile, I'd say.

i would like to be funny but my first task on tuesday when the trout season opens is to see if any fish have survived in about 5 miles of the colne if any have they are not on the menu we had a once i twenty years flood which gave cleanstone then someone messed up and poisoned it big style . at the mo there is a big bod and no visible life waders n thongs not very

i don't know about their fishing gear, but their computer equipment is good. i got an excellent external hard drive and a remarkable self charging wireless mouse when the new Lidl opened here last year. no problems with them yet, and they were very cheap. food was good too - even selling organic veg.
