Just put on a gallon of apple and ginger wine using lidls cheapie apple juice, a couple of ounces of fresh ginger (chopped and boiled in 1 litre with the sugar first) and a kilo of sugar.

Also a quick n dirty 5 gallon elderberry using dried elderberries and sugar with a couple of litres each of grape and apple juice chucked in because they were sitting there looking at me.

Only had turboyeast in the house, so I have no idea how successful these will be, but at least that stuff has more than enough nutrients in it to get things going. I can sit over these for a week to check they are doing ok then they will be left to their own devices whilst we go on holiday, so heres hoping they will behave themselves.

. . . or a clean carpet.

Good luck with them, after trying my Dandelion I could be tempted to try a few more different recipes myself. Watermint is top of the list and if I could find some cheap ginger that could be interesting.

I'm following this with interest. OH is currently brewing 'turbo' cider and he is having ideas about trying some other stuff. He's thinking about an orange wine - all very scientific I gather.

Anyway, I don't care how great it's going to be, I'm still not letting him put it in my airing cupboard

has anyone ever made any parsnip wine?

i've got a few homebrew books i have picked up from charity shops over the years and 'someday we'll have space to make wine'

anyway, parsnip is one the ones that caught my eye as it seems so odd. i can understand using all sorts of wild foraged bits and bobs but wondered what posessed someone to use parnsips... course, after hearing about jemas carrot whisky maybe i already know the answer

Years ago, yeah. Works very well, but it needs a long time to mature before it smooths out and becomes pleasant.

Not the best one to make till you've already got a well stocked cellar.

Yep ! just bottled it this morning. Made it begining of March. Racked off and filtered, crystal clear, hydrometer sinks all the way !
Tastes strong but a bit rough.
Made oak leaf wine at the weekend, just a gallon to start with.
