|
Just to say a HUGE thank you to everyone for all your support over the last few weeks.
And I have to say to anyone who may ever have to go through the same process - the actual 'going bankrupt' bit of going bankrupt is rather soothing. The forms (which we filled in online and printed and took with us) are a bummer. But once you get to the court, it's all low key and smooth and very stress free.
Interestingly, again should anyone ever need to know; one cannot wind up ones own Ltd company due to insolvency; one needs to employ an insolvency practitioner. And insolvency practitioners are only interested in acting for you if the company has any assets. Which ours didn't. So Companies House have advised us to resign as directors (which we are legally obliged to do because you can't be a director of a Ltd company and also be an undischarged bankrupt). And, 'let things just take their course'. Because we have personally guaranteed the loan the company has, that gets rolled up in the bankruptcy, so that's okay. But the company just toddles along for a few months and then dies a death, apparently.
So. We went to court. We went for a fry-up. We went to open a 'bank account for bankrupts' (Barclays) and coming out of the bank we met Mrs We Must Have Drinks, who asked what we were up to. So I told her. And then we came home and all had a two hour sleep. And when we woke up, Mrs WMHD had left the Dead Chicken Money and rather a nice bottle of bordeaux on the doorstep.
Next: we have an appointment to speak to the Official Receiver by telephone in a fortnight (apparently the Chester Office are 'snowed under'). This is the bit whether they work out whether they are going to take any money off you over the next three years.
And we pick up the keys for the new house on Saturday morning. Arvo is making a few phone calls about men-and-vans on the grounds that it will be easier to move with some help and get it out of the way. I'm too scared to put a pic of the house up before we actually pick up the keys in case it attracts some kind of dreadful bad luck .
Once again, thank you everyone. Downsizer is a brilliant community and I am really proud to be a part of it.
*coughs in covering up emotions fashion and cautiously instigates group hug*
Oh - and the contractions go away if I stay still. But not otherwise. From that point of view it's been an interesting morning . |
