We've been given a greenhouse frame and since neither glass nor polypropelene are cheap we though we'd initially cover it with UV resistant polythene, which should give us a few years to suss out something more permanent.

Any suggestions as to a good source?

Don't know about the polythene but I got my glass for my second hand greenhouse for free on freecycle - worth a try as there is often someone trying to dispose of an old greenhouse and/or glass.

It is also an idea to consider the local vandals...glass might not be the best idea?

We used cheap polythene from a local garden centre. Cheap as chips, and has withstood some wild weather.

Thanks folks

Vandalism shouldn't be a problem where glass is concerned as the allotment site is pretty secure - being severely cack-handed I was more worried that I would damage it

Get some anti-hot-spot tape or use pipe lagging for corners and sticky out bits so the frame does not push it's way through the pvc.

Good point, thanks......any advice about actually covering it?

I've never done anything like this before and with my allotment partner in hospital (and likely to remain there for some time) I'll probably be doing it single-handed

I've ordered some 2 metre wide polythene so the front and back will be seperate from the top and sides - seemed that as I'll be alone doing it that way would be more managable.

To be honest I'm floundering a bit but want to get as much done as I can in her absence, which is likely to be a very long one.

What is the frame of the greenhouse made of: round pipe or square section?
Round pipe is easy to work with as you can buy PVC clips from the local hardware supplier which clip around the pipe and flexible covering, holding it very firmly to the frame. They have the advantage of being very easy to remove for the inevitable adjustments: something important to remember if you're attempting the job single-handedly.

It's not round, unfortunately. My polythene has arrived and I've ordered some hotspot tape and some spring-loaded clips so far....
